Canmore 2017 Results

1/12/2017

The team of Velocity athletes that went to the rescheduled Calforex Cup # 2 in Canmore, AB this past weekend had a great time and brought home 5 medals.

Jake Draper took gold for both of his races in the Senior Boys category, Emma Marnik took gold for both of her races in the Developmental 2 Girls category and Aidan Hupé, in the Developmental 2 Boys category, took bronze for his first race and came in 4th for his second race (missing the podium by just a second).

Lots of great results for our athletes with some awesome shooting – Bronwyn Goodwin-Williams and Francis Reid both shooting clean (hitting all the targets) in several of their shooting boots.

Result for all the athletes in the 2 races:

Liam Adel – 8th both races
Francis Reid – 5th and 9th
Jake Draper – 1st in both races
Aidan Adel – 20th and 21st
Bronwyn Goodwyn-Williams – 6th and 7th
Amélie Latour – 16th
Emma Marnik – 1st in both races
Aidan Hupé – 3rd and 4th

Weather was cold but the sun came out so the view was spectacular and the people we great giving the Yukon a very warm welcome.

The team is now gearing up for the next trip – Whistler, BC!

Canmore Packing List

1/2/2017

Hi everyone...we've been a bit reluctant to send this email...afraid we might jinx the weather!

Click HERE for a list of what you will need to bring for the Canmore trip!

Please make sure you are at the airport by NO LATER THAN 6:00 a.m. as we need to load ski bags etc. and fill in rifle/ammo transport forms.

Also, make sure you CONNECT YOUR BAGS to the Air Canada flight. You can do that now (if you haven't already) or when you check in - but please do not forget!

Lastly, make sure you know where your ammo is in your suitcase in case we have to move it all to one suitcase.

Last, last....the forecast for Canmore weather is looking a bit cold...so make sure you pack those extra mitts and warm gear!

The coaches wanted to remind everyone that the Don Sumanik Memorial Races are on December 3rd (classic skiing) and December 4th (skate skiing).  If you have classic gear we strongly encourage you to go into the race on Dec 3rd.

The skate race (called free technique as you can do either skate or classic) on Dec 4th is a REQUIREMENT to qualify for going to the Canadian Championships (Nationals) this season in March. We will be sending out the full Nationals qualification requirements shortly.

There will be NO PRACTICE on Dec 4th - the Don Sumanik race will be the practice!

REGISTRATION DEADLINE is Wednesday November 30th at 6:00 p.m.  Click on the link below to get to the registration page.

Canmore Travel Information - December 8-12

Velocity Athletes - and Parents - here is all the information you will need for booking flights to Canmore.

The dates have been set and now there is room for 12 athletes to go, if they so desire.  We have rooms booked, vans reserved and now need you to book your flights to make it all happen.

Departure:

Air North - Whitehorse to Vancouver                    Thursday, December 8 @ 0730          arrives at 0945   (morning flight)

Air Canada - Vancouver to Calgary                      Thursday, December 8 @ 1155          arrives at 1420

NOTE - VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU BOOK AIR CANADA FIRST AND THEN CONNECT YOUR BAGS WITH AIR NORTH WHEN YOU BOOK.  It can probably be done retroactively, but this is easier.  If you bough a flight pass, phone them to book.

Return:

Air North - Calgary to Whitehorse                         Monday, December 12 @ 2120         arrives at 0010 (that's midnight!)

Ideally, all athletes are on the same flight from Vancouver to Calgary.  This will make it easier when arriving in Calgary and driving to Canmore.

Once you have booked your flights, please forward them to Sophia (sophia.marnik@yahoo.com) for the Lotteries Yukon Travel Grant.

Alright, Velocity.  We need you to sign up (if you haven't already) for a slot during the Spruce Bog Craft Fair, on Saturday, November 19.  This is an annual event that brings in money that will help off-set your travel costs to outside races.  If you take a shift (preferably two), you will get a share of the donations.

The Coat Check is a fun and easy way for us to fundraise, as well as spend time as a team and provide a needed service to the community.

Click on the link below and sign up!
