A few things...
1) The decision was made to do Team photos at the Games, not the pep rally. Please be at the pep rally by 5:30 pm. There will some food and refreshments provided. Please wear your new hoodie. Parents/grandparents are welcome to come to the pep rally.

2) Do not wear any of your team Yukon apparel prior to the pep rally on Thursday.

3) We are being asked to be at the airport by 6:00 am. Saturday. There is a possibility that we may have some participants with nut allergies on our plane. We are asked not to have nut products/snacks on the plane.

4) Even though we will have on site meal service at the Biathlon venue, I still recommend that you consider bringing some snack items for competition days (just in case). There are grocery stores in Hay River so we could get a few things while we’re there.

5) I suggest that you pack a towel and bathing suit as the local swimming pool will be open. Don’t forget your pillow!

6) Try on your gear, if something does not fit, exchanges will take place Monday, 8:30 am.-4:30 pm. Tuesday, 8:30 am.-12:00 pm.

Thank you.

Three Weeks To Go! Notes from Laurie and Dan

2/27/2018

Hello AWG Team,

Less than 3 weeks until we leave for Hay River! Two notes from me:

Early to bed, early to rise - Start to prepare for the one hour time change and morning races (snowshoers) by going to bed a little earlier and getting up earlier. Get a good nights sleep and keep healthy!

Yes! It looks like we have food at the range on our race days! Thank you to Dan for looking after us and getting this done!

Here lots of great information from Dan.....

Just wanted to forward some more info along to you all.

1) Fees are due, in full, tomorrow at Sport Yukon. You can contact Sandra at the front desk, she will be able to tell you how much you owe ($375.00 minus the raffle ticket sales).

2) Nutrition Presentation is scheduled to begin at Sport Yukon tomorrow at 5:00 pm. It will likely be about 1.5 hours long and you are welcome to attend in person at Sport Yukon or watch on Facebook live.

3) The raffle will happen at Sport Yukon on Friday, you can watch on Facebook live as well.

4) Immunizations are available at Public Health (Quartz Road) on Mar. 2/18 from 1-4:00 pm.

5) Please fill out the athlete profile forms (optional). This is to assist the communications folks.

6) Charter- You will be able to check one personal bag (under 40 lbs.) and have one carry on (under 20 lbs.). The carry on should be able to fit under the seat in front of you. This does not include equipment, just personal belongings. Don’t forget to pack a pillow as they will not provide one for you. We don’t know if there will be mattress covers, you may want to bring a single fitted sheet (just in case). You will get a sleeping bag as part of your athlete package. We leave Whitehorse at 8:00 am. Sat. Mar.17. We should be at the airport by 6:30 am.!! Don’t forget there is a one hour time change in Hay River and it is a two hour flight so we will arrive at 11:00 am local time.

7) Pep Rally is scheduled for Thurs. Mar.15/18 at the Art Centre. Due to begin at 6:00 pm.; however, you will be required to be there by 5:00-5:15 pm. so that team pictures can be taken prior to the start of the Rally. Everyone is asked to wear your Team Yukon hoodies and black pants if you have them or blue jeans. Pants are not a big deal but we should try to match as a team, so whatever you guys want to do, just let me know!

8) As most of you know by now, we will be having food service right at the venue for lunches! I still recommend that we bring some snack foods ( ie. Emma’s trail mix - pre/ post race stuff just in case).

I think that is about it for now, I have another Mission meeting next week so I will update you as I become aware.

NOTE FROM AWG MISSON STAFF!

I’m going to make graphics to share on our Facebook/Twitter pages, with the athlete’s name, photo, and a short bio. Just light, interesting information that will get people excited for the Games. (Here’s an example from Nova Scotia).

To do this, I need information from the athletes, and that’s where you come in!
I’ve made this form to collect info (name, sport, photo, interview questions) and I’d like you to send it out to your athletes (or to your coaches to distribute to the athletes):

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdodU6djDURAbgnQPolB8m8g4bbwew1OGX9hBYn1db6s2iOrQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
1.     This is a fun way for people to get to know the team, but it is also fully optional and no athlete is required to respond
2.    They don’t need to answer all the questions – totally fine if they skip a few (that said – the more information I get, the better the end product)
3.     They do need to upload a photo (there is an option for this within the form)
4.     Once responses start rolling in, I’ll aim to post 3-5 a week (or more, if there’s a lot of responses)

Hello AWG athletes,

A few reminders in this Update #2 and new information on an AWG athlete/parent meeting.

ROSTERS
The Team Rosters will be at practice on Wednesday. I still need a few Signatures from athletes and parent.

REGISTRATION
Did you REGISTER? Any questions? Your submitted photo will be on your Games ID and on line, so make it pretty!
If you haven’t registered yet, DO IT NOW! Follow the link below to Gems Pro athlete registration. Allow an hour and have a parent close by ready to help:) If this link does not work, find it at the Sport Yukon website, under Team Yukon/Arctic Winter Games at the bottom of the page under Registration.

There are two forms to print and sign at the end of the registration process. If you have them, please give them to Laurie.  If you can’t print them or have problems, these forms will be available at the Athlete/Parent meeting (see below).
Here is the link to registration:
https://awg2018.gems.pro/Participant/Register.aspx?&Participant_Type_GUID=16e4df51-d1bb-4914-945a-26dd882aa493

RAFFLE TICKETS
Again, if you want to reduce your AWG fees, drop by Sport Yukon and pickup raffle tickets. 75% of every ticket you sell goes towards your $375 athlete fee.

ATHLETE/PARENT MEETING
Our AWG Mission Staff, Dan Pearson, has requested an athlete/parent meeting. All athletes and at least one parent must attend. Dan will be reviewing the Athlete Code of Conduct and will require athlete and parent signatures. He will also be bringing us new information about the Games and answering any questions you might have.

At this time, the meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, February 4th at 12:30 in the board room at the Canada Games Center. This is anticipating that, according to the forecast, the weather will be too cold to hold the Yukon Championships on the weekend and that regular 10:30 to 12:30 Sunday practice will be at the CGC. If Championships go ahead on the 3rd and 4th, we will reschedule the meeting, likely to the 11th.  I will let you know when the meeting date is finalized.

AND here we are, your AWG Coaches,

Nick Marnik
Anna Jacobsen
Ted Hupé
Laurie Jacobsen

See you on Wednesday at range practice. Dress warm!

AWG Update - Happy New Year!

1/15/2018

Happy new year! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday season. As we move towards finalizing the snowshoe and ski biathlon teams I wanted to pass along a few reminders:

1) All coaches, managers, chaperones over the age of 18 require a current criminal record check (if you have had one in the last calendar year, a new one is not required). A form letter is available at the front counter at Sport Yukon which I recommend you pick up before going to the RCMP. They did ask me for the letter.

2) Raffle tickets are available for pick up at Sport Yukon. The sale of four complete books covers the registration fees for an athlete ($3.75/ticket towards fees). Athletes are responsible for the tickets they take. If a book of tickets gets lost, the athlete will be responsible to pay for those tickets. Only athletes named to a team can redeem the credit for ticket sales. An athlete that is not named to a roster can sell tickets and bequeath the credits to friend that is on a roster.

3) Once the teams are named, we will have to get together to review the AWG Handbook to ensure that everyone understands the code of conduct and expectations prior to and during the games.

Thanks for all the help by volunteers to make the AWG Trials go off without a hitch.  Well done folks.

Results from the two weekends are on the Home Page - click to read the documents.  The teams have not been named officially yet, but will be named in the new year.

More information about the teams will be coming in the next month, so stay tuned!
